Latest Alaskan Malamute Frequently Asked Questions:
i have an 11mth old alaskan malamute what are a few activities i can do with him? IN AUSTRALIA i have an 11mth old alaskan malamute what are a few activities i can do with him? IN AUSTRALIA SYDNEY
Answer:Naww what a beautiful dog. I have a four year old dog, Gypsy. Who is crossed with malamute. You could take him to dog beaches, they love to swim (well mine does - and we live in australia, gold coast) and lakes, that allow dogs. Dog parks, where they can run around and meet other doggies, its really good to to get him social with other dogs at a young age, want him to be friendly. Gypsy also loves to go on the boat with us, loves going for drives, bush walks, hikes. Your dog will love going anywhere and everywhere with you, because its spending time with the person they love most. They love going outdoors, new smells, exercising. You dog will love just going for walks lol. Good luck with him.
I am fostering an Alaskan Malamute for the first time that is extremely fluffy. Her bottom has issues with too long of hair and her "deposits" have gotten stuck to her. I haven't had her long but she is terrified of the groomer and was asked to leave. I attempted to do it myself but must have done something wrong as she screamed and screamed, even though she was given a sedative. I need to REALLY get her clean so I can shave her fluffy-ness. Any ideas, without torturing her?
Answer:There are some groomers that will come to your home, although I don't know if that would help. If she trusts you, then I would start with just laying out the grooming tools and letting her sniff them and become comfortable with them. Make sure to give her lots of praise and treats when she doesn't react negatively to the tools. Be very slow and calm and reassuring when you try to groom her. Start off with just 30 seconds of brushing, and once again, give lots of treats and praise. Continue like this several times a day until she is calm enough to let you do more grooming in one session.
I have a 7.5 month old pedigree Alaskan Malamute. His father weighs 44kgs and is 5 years old. Our little man already weighs 48.6kgs and stands at 75cms tall at the shoulders. Our vet is not concerned as he can feel the last three ribs. Anyone have any other information or am i just in for having a giant Malamute?
Answer:If the vet's not worried, you shouldn't be. Was the mom big?
We're looking for a puppy, and an alaskan malamute x rotty has come up. I have a 16 month old boy. Was just wondering your opinion, do you think that this cross breed of dog would be appropriate, with the right training?
Answer:Wait until your child is a bit older if the dog hasn't been raised with infants. This may very well be a great dog, but the potential for aggression is definitely there. A Mal/Rottie mix is a big dog that needs training and handling and an experienced owner from day one. I'd pass unless you know this dog has a stellar temperament, has had some training, and has been raised around infants.
I am looking for an alaskan malamute for free. Does anyone know any websites i can look on or does anyone actually have one that they could give me? I would like it to be 5 months-1 year old I live in Cambridgeshire United Kingdom
Answer:Look in the RSPCA/Dogs' Trusts near you. It's near Christmas so you'll find lots of mixes or purebreds in January/February time.
