My mom is getting a new dog for my step-dad and I was wondering about the dog's personality. I did some re-search, but only found info about breeding and putting them in shows and hunting with them. I don't want any of those three, as the dog is going to be a family dog and he's fixed. I just want to know how the dog may act. We have another dog, an Australian Shepard, and we have cats. We also have three rats and two mice.

Whats the difference between a treeing walker coonhound and a american foxhound. We are trying to determine our dogs breed and we are stuck between thoose two breeds but cannot find any differences between the two.
Answer:The only thing the same about those two breed is the coloring.
We are thinking of possible dogs to adopt and we really like American Foxhounds...but we want to know if they howl like some beagles we have had experience with. Any advice?
Answer:American Foxhounds do howl.. they don't howl like Beagles at all.. it's a lot louder and a lot deeper.. if you're not a fan of a dog howling or bailing, this dog is not recommended for you... i would also talk to some neighbours, if any, to make sure they don't send any complaints of your dog. good luck :)
I've seen some pictures and I've read some information, and I've fallen in love with American Foxhounds. If anyone has any information or has ever had a Foxhound, I'd like to know. Everything, how much they eat, how much they shed, daily exercise, genetic diseases, history, etc. Nice stories about them would be great too. Some day I might want to breed them, not on an extreme scale, but maybe with two or three b*tches and a dog or two, meaning an occaisional litter but not often. So genetic diseases and links to the standard would be great, I want to learn as much as possible about my favorite dog!
Answer:Foxhounds are not typically kept as pets. They are usually kept in packs outside. Please don't even consider breeding them. There are already so many unwanted pets that are euthanized everyday.
