what is the differences between pit bull and American Staffordshire Terrier?
Answer:I have a huge long explanation for this, but I'll try to keep it simple. Essentially, there are TWO different breeds, which originated from the same stock. AKC registers dogs called American Staffordshire Terriers, they are bigger, more muscular, with squarer heads. They are showing dogs, not working ones. UKC registers dogs called American Pit Bull Terriers. These dogs are tall, slender, athletic, with longer, wedgier heads. They are working dogs. AmStaff and APBT originated from the same stock, however, when AKC decided to accept the breed into it's registry, it didn't want to have the words "pit bull" associated with it's organization, so they changed the name to Staffordshire Terrier, and later, American Staffordshire Terrier. Here are some picture references: AmStaff: http://www.dkimages.com/discover/previews/920/10022306.JPG http://www.arcatapet.com/fullsize/12213.jpg APBT: http://www.realpitbull.com/Lilbit-04-08-08-7.jpg http://builder.evetsite.com/matrix/servlet/ShowAsset?id=10874278 There is also a breed called the American Bully (Sometimes referred to as an APBT, but they are NOT APBTs, they are MIXED BRED dogs (admittedly by Dave Wilson, the man who "created" this breed) They are SEPARATE from the REAL APBT American Bully: http://www.ucadogs.com/images/sol_boy.jpg http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/images19/Americanbullycorleonekennels1.jpg There is also a few breeds called Staffordshire Bull Terrier and Bull Terrier which some people confuse with other bully breeds as well. Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a small, power packed mini dog, with round, bulbous heads. They stand less than 2 feet tall (normally 1- 1.5 feet) Staffy: http://blogs.nbcuni.com/petsideblog/staffordshire.bull.terrier.jpg http://www.thebestofbreeds.com/catalog/images/StaffordshireBullTerrier.jpg Bull Terriers (come in standard and mini sizes) are egg headed shaped dogs, which are compact, but SOLIDLY built. I agree, they developed from the same breeding stock, but the two breeds have been bred for such different purposes for quite some time now, they they vary... GREATLY. Both in temperament and looks. The APBT is gamey, and working. They are slender, and athletic. The AmStaff is showy, they are bred to be showing. Whereas the APBT has traditionally been bred to work (some for dog fighting).
American Pit Bull Terrier and the American Staffordshire Terrier Kwayzie b: I just looked at that question you posted and its not the same. they were asking about the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. That is not what I am refering too. TO me by the way the American Pit and the American Staff seem to be the same dog. Is that true are they
Answer:I have one of each..both spade females. My Pit is about 4" shorter and about the same difference in length from my Amstaff. My Amstaff has a little bit longer ears but she can "perk" them up (still a fold at the top) My Pit has smaller ears and she can "perk"hers up with only a very small fold at the top.Of course, neither one has been cut YUK!! I hate seeing cut ears. My Amstaff weighs 72lbs while my Pit is 37lbs.(all muscle,no fat).

Hello, I am wanting to know if anyone knows a good website on where I could find an American Staffordshire Terrier, for FREE or ADOPTION. thanks..
Answer:I live in Aus and Amstaff's aren't as common here as English Staff's are. You will have a slim to none chance of finding an Amstaff here for free. Even a shelter is going to charge you an adoption fee that will be a min of about $200 and even in a shelter I don't think you are going to find an Amstaff. Why does it have to be and Amstaff? I'm also curious to know why it has to be free. Generally when people aren't willing to pay for a dog they are prepared or willing to cover all the costs that come along with owning a dog. People dog realise how expensive it can be to RESPONSIBLY own a dog.
