I know I've asked this, but I want to get as many opinions as possible. My Anatolian Shepherd Dog has cancer. She is 11 years old and has a small cluster of tumors in her brain, one on the outside of her head, and the vet thinks that the cancer is spreading to her lymph nodes. Her cancer is very aggressive. She is having surgery tomorow and has already had one dose of chemotherapy. Should I continue the treatment of euthanise her?
Answer:Oh,if she is having surgery and has already started chemo,I would wait and see.If she responds badly to the chemo, then I would just stop it and let her live the rest of her days out happy and eating, not nauseated and in pain. Dogs seems to have less side effects than people, though,so she may feel fine during chemo.Only you can make the final decision, and I know that it is a hard one. best of luck, and I hope the treatment can give you some more quality time with her.
I have a 15 month old Anatolian that I have just started showing. I am interested in finding shows where there is competition for him. What area are they mainly shown in? I know they are mainly a working dog, but mine really has enjoyed his show ring experience. Any help is appreciated. I live in central Kansas. He won Best of Breed at his first show. He is AKC registered
Answer:I assume we are talking AKC? Or do you show in the UKC venue? Best place IMO to get show info is http//www.infodog.com Click on show information, then click on search by state. You may then click on each state you want to search in for upcoming shows...many also have the option of checking past entries for each breed at that location. If you join infodog, they also have function called 'find a major' that assists with choosing shows most likely to draw a major in your breed.
im rather curious about this breed ive studied up on them (as some know my family is looking into getting me a dog later this year or the beginning of next) what are your general opinions of the breed is it to rugged for you? a couch potato? after what ive read on them i think i could safely provide the love and attention this breed would need. but what do you think of this breed as a whole? what are our experiences? this wouldnt be my first choice personally but this question is based off curiosity. i would rather have another akita
Answer:They are a lot of dog with a need for something to guard. Everything they do comes from that fact. You can expect guarding behavior which can be a serious issue. Unless you have a flock to guard, you are stepping into very deep water. Find breeders to talk to and get to know the breed. No amount of studying will set you up completely. Consider volunteering to foster rescue dogs. This would allow you to get a feel for the breed, with a lot of support from experts in the breed. Fostering means you don't keep the dog forever so if you made a mistake, you can get out of it with no heartache.
