Latest Australian Terrier Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Does anyone have an australian terrier?
I'm getting an australian terrier tomrorow and I was just wondering if any one had any advice for me?
Answer:Australian terrier – Wow - You luck, luck lady. We had to stand on our head to convince our breeder to sell us one. We now have two. http://www.flickr.com/photos/11886874@N03/1198136069/ Our girl is 3 and the boy will be 2 next month. I have had dogs all my life, with many different breeds, but this breed is very special. Our vet was the one who told us how wonderful they are. You did not mention if you have a girl or boy. Girls are little escape articles, they also become board easy. Aussies make poor fence runners, they need their people. They love life, courageous and clever. As a terrier, they will challenge you, but not like most terriers; therefore, a training program is a must. Potty training can be a challenge. I socialize mine with other dogs and children at a young age and this has paid off. You can e-mail me if you have any questions. Also - This is something I started. http://www.flickr.com/photos/11886874@N03/1308121950/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/11886874@N03/1347098951/ I love my Australian Terriers

  • Australian terrier, how do I get the pick of the litter?
I am going to get a ozzy terrier tomorrow what do i need to look for. I want a girl and there are 3 girls to choose from....
Answer: Hi, I have one of these dogs and I love her to bits. My dog was a failed show dog as she is a little shy but I love this about her. She is my best friend. A rule of thumb for picking out the best dog for you is to watch the mother and the pup's response to the mother. Is the pup nervous or playful and does it have a happy disposition. Watch how the dog interacts with her sisters and brothers. Usually the best dog to pick is the one the mother favours. There are a few good web sites on Aussie Terriers and they might give you some clues. You can email me any time if you have questions.. Good luck with picking out your pup.

  • My 10 year old female Australian Terrier has been pooping in our house in the middle of the night. Help!?
How do I keep my 10 year old Australian Terrier from pooping in the house at night? She has never done this before and it has become a problem. We moved to Utah a year ago from Texas and it started about 4 months ago. Somebody please help. It has begun to cause problems for my new spouse and I.
Answer:Given her age and that this is a new behaviour, the first thing you need to do is take her to the vet to rule out a physical problem. Incontinence in older dogs isn't uncommon but there's help for it. If that's not it, she needs to be crated at night - although that's going to be hard at her age if she isn't already crate trained.

  • How much does an Australian terrier usually cost?
Not the cost of a show dog or anything but just a normal house dog.
Answer:Try petfinder.com & see about rescues. If you want that breed but only for a pet than it is much better to rescue than pay a lot of money for a pedigree you have no intentions of using. As for------ U have 2 be: "There is nothing better then buying a well bred, healthy dog from a reputable breeder". Except for rescuing one that will be put down only to make room for a pedigree that someone decides to throw away in the end anyway!! Save a life- SPAY & NEUTER!

  • Can you help me find an Australian Terrier??
I'm just looking/pricing for an Australian Terrier puppy for myself, however all the breeders I've found so far want more than I am willing to spend on a cute little dog. Does anyone know of any breeders around the Texas state area who want about $500 per puppy?
Answer:Australian terrier will be the greatest small dog you will ever own. I know - we have two: http://www.flickr.com/photos/11886874@N03/1198136069/ Australian terriers are not sold in pet stores or news papers. It is not uncommon for people to go on waiting list or drive a long distance to get one. We did not just arrive at a breeder with money in our hand and pick one out. I suggest you not get a knock off puppy mill reject. You probably make up the price with vet bills. Remember you will have this little buddy for a long time. Save your money for the real deal. Sometimes in life some things are worth paying more for. A $1,000.00 is a good starting point. The national Australian terrier club is where I started my search. http://www.australianterrier.org/. This site lists breeders that are in good standing. I would contact breeders in your area even if they do not have puppies available.
