My friend wants a basset hound puppy for her graduation. I am trying to figure out what an average price for one is, so I know whether or not I can afford to get her one.
Answer:this depends. Are you talking about show quality or pet quality? and I really hope you are not talking about high school graduation, because a new puppy is NOT the thing to deal with if you are going to be entering college. Try looking around online, or better yet, look at your local pound. Has she ever had one before? make sure she REALLY researches the breed before she gets one because "its soooo kyoot!" and you can get one ranging from $50-800, depending what quality your looking for, pure bred, lineage, and what the owners want to ask for it.
My basset hound just had babies 2 days ago and she looks awful because she is so skinny. I can't get her to eat dog food that is for her to help her get the nutrients she needs. All she will eat is meat. Is that healthy for her right now? I want to make sure her and the puppies get the best. What can I feed her that she will eat and is healthy for her?
Answer:Put her on Pet Tabs Plus every day from now on, a dog should be on vitamins daily for life, and give according to her weight, just read the label. now food, to get a good jump start and some good protein in her now, boneless white meat chicken, boil it till really tender, chicken breasts, no bones make sure.....and give it to her daily... also, a good dog food for her to pickup weight with is Royal Canin or Canidae..... eatch her, her coat and skin due to the chicken will get so nice, but make sure you keep the dog food down for her also. good luck and congrats on the new pups..

Answer:First, discuss this with your vet and confirm whether she is pregnant or not. Consider the possibility of spaying her immediately, which would be both cheaper for you and safer for her than allowing her to have the puppies. Then make sure she is eating a high-quality diet. She should get normal exercise. Get your whelping box ready and have your whelping kit assembled. Make sure you have lots of money put aside for emergencies, food, puppy shots etc. Arrange for time off work unless you have someone to cover for you. About a week to 10 days before her due date, start taking her temperature twice a day. When there is a substantial drop, you can usually expect puppies within 24 hours. Notify your vet, so that they can be ready if there is an emergency. Bassets are prone to uterine inertia, plus the often need c-sections. DO NOT leave your basset alone when puppies are imminent. Once she has had the puppies she needs to be supervised 24/7 for the first 2-3 weeks, as bassets will often lie on their puppies and suffocate them. It only takes minutes for this to happen. Both breeds are pretty easygoing and females tend to be less agressive than males so they should so fine together.
