  • Bedlington Terrier advice?
My fiance and I are looking to adopt (hopefully) or buy a Bedlington Terrier. I have read up on the breed quite a bit and would just like the point of view of the owner of a Bedlington Terrier. I am slightly concerned about their viciousness when fighting, stubborness, and more information on difficultly of upkeep of coat. Basically, if you have a Bedlington Terrier, I would LOVE any stories/advice/findings/concerns, etc. Thank you so much! We would LOVE to adopt. If we can't find one to adopt immediately, we would love to wait to find one to adopt. But we definitely want a full Bedlington Terrier. Please answer this question only if you have actual information on this breed, thank you. I've read everything online and would like to hear from someone who has actualy EXPERIENCE with one, thank you! :)
Answer:I have a bedlington terrier who is now just over a year old. Viciousness has definitely not been a problem. She's pretty submissive and very friendly and gets along well with people and just about any dog she's ever encountered. She's affectionate with me and fairly calm when in the house. I honestly can't even imagine her being in a dog fight. Stubbornness has been an issue, however. She is difficult to train and only listens when she feels like it. She can't be let off the leash because she won't necessarily come back when called. She also has an extremely high prey drive and wants to chase any small animal she sees, which can making walking her in the summer frustrating because of squirrels. Bedlington terriers need to be professionally groomed on a regular basis and that can get expensive. It's also difficult to find someone who knows how to do it correctly and if it's not done the right way, they won't have the Bedlington look. I would doubt you will be able to find one to adopt as they are quite rare. They are expensive to buy - here's the website with a list of breeders: http://bedlingtonamerica.com/referral/index.htm If you are getting one, be sure it's parents have been tested for the copper toxicosis gene, a serious disease that can cause chronic illness and premature death.

  • Bedlington Terrier help!Aggressive towads my kids, escaping, growls when in their 'pack' (I've got 3). Help!!!
I've got 3 Bedlington Terriers who are now 5 month old male (Henry), 8 month old male (Stevie) and a 10 month old female (Jennie) - they are all spayed except Henry. I've had a lot of trouble with each of them! They are all extremely stubborn (Jennie not eat a specific flavor food, Stevie will not wear a collar, Henry will not eat any food with CHICKEN, Jennie will not sleep on a doggy bed only a crate etc.). I have had them in socialization and obedience classes since puppies. They are both very aggressive towards my childen (6 yrs, 10 yrs and 13 yrs), very bossy (Stevie is the BOSS of their pack). I have seen Henry KILL a cat running across my back lawn! All of them have ESCAPED (except Henry) from my property atleast 3 times; even though the fence has chicken wire underneath and is 5'8ft high. They will each growl or snap at me my partner of my kids if we touch them when they are sleeping/eating/snapping at each other. I need this to stop!HELP my kids are at risk - can not euthanize? Also, the are all aggressive towards other non-Bedlington breeds. This is a real worry considering I also own a Chihuahua and a Beagle. I am VERY concerned. I do not want to have to put them down as believe it or not, I love my Bedlingtons. I can not keep them seperate from my Chihuahua (7 months; male; not neutered) or my Beagle (4 years; female; spayed)! Any ideas on what to do? I don't want them to kill/injure my Chihuahua, Beagle, myself or my kids! They are truley good dogs but I have no idea what else to do! Henry got kicked out of his socialization class when he attempted to aggressively bite a female Maltese puppy. I have TRIED to socilaize them with other dogs at the park, other kids, other adults but they are just SO aggressive; everybody is so scared of my babies! My Chi and Beagle are great dogs! And yes, I got them from reputable breeds and I checked the temperamt of the sire and dam; they were fantastic Bedlingtions! The 3 of them stick together, they're like a neighbourhood gang! They won't take anything from anyone! They won't except my Chihuahua or Beagle, my Chi and Beagle are very good tempered dogs, never shown ANY signs of aggression. I'm at such a loss of what to do. Not even my Vet can hanle them! My Bedlingtons have snapped, bit, growled at all the vets we've seen. They won't allow anybody (that they don't know) to touch them, pat them, hold them, walk them, feed them etc. I have never been able to go on vacation or holidays as boarding them is not an option - no kennel will take them for a week!!!!!!!!! Ravensgirl; i can not get rid of them! They have behavioural problems but that doesn't mean I need to get rid of them! Nobody else will take the dogs if I leave them at a pound. I was considering breeding them all but since they have such appouling temperaments, I decided not to. These dogs are not the pack leader - we don't think! They are hardly even a family dog. They won't do anything with us, they won't even come and enjoy a night in infront of the heater! I have never allowed my dogs to become spoilt! They sleep on doggy beds downstairs as they do not like sleeping with the family or in living areas, dining room, bedroom.
Answer:you need to get rid of them, they obviously dont realize you are the boss. maybe you should keep just one. if they are agressive towards your kids it wont be long until they bite one of your children. i would not keep them around if your children are at risk

  • My bedlington terrier is to and has barley changes colourand he is 2 years old?
He has had regular grooming and he is a healthy dog what is wrong with him and why hasn't he changed colour i asked the breeder we bought him from and she said its to late for him to change now people don't even think he's a bedlington terrier and we often get comments like i have never seen one that colour i do know for sure he is a pure breed because the breeder is family friends and my aunty has his mother so i can't think of ay thing else any suggestions on what to do or is he just like that ?
Answer:Just because he is purebred does not mean he will change color. Sometimes dogs have a defect that they cannot change their coat color, but it won't hurt him. At two years old, he won't be changing color, he is just different

  • list of fighting dogs? the bedlington terrier?
ok i already know all terriers are pretty much game when it comes to doing anything which requires them to put their life on the line or not but supposedly from several sights with so called lists of fighting dogs the bedlington terrier is in their list. can anyone rally attest to this breed of dog being such? or is this just the old description reviewing history? to the few dumb dicks on here i dont fight dogs or are not trying too i was looking up terriers history and as part of the history they were explaining the gameness of them and the bedlington came up, i thought to my self yeah terriers are spunky but a fighter the "lamb dog"...NAH i didnt mean terriers a fighting dogs i meant that they are gamey theirs a difference between being game and game bred ,also having lived from HI to IL to IN to GA to OH to Germany to CN to Japan to south korea , military / traveling family also having extended family from india living around street and high priced fight dogs and having cops in the family who bust the dummies i know all the horrible Truths and myths about dog fighting the whole vick thing is no surprise especially being in the south of the US dog fight just like the literal KKK is still very prevalent, sick yes, can stuff be done about it, yes, are extensive efforts being executed to assure that the work being put in to stop such things are actually final and are not just providing new loop holes, no
Answer:Bedlingtons are the calmest and softest terriers in temperment. They will fight with another dog, but they won't start a fight. If another dog gets a little too pushy a Bedlington Terrier will fight with it. They may look soft and cuddly but they are a terrier, bred to hunt and kill.

  • Should I get a Ponydoodle or a Bedlington Terrier?
Everybody said I should get a Welsh Corgi, but then everyone in the next question said it wouldn't go good with my cow. Someone said I should get a Ponydoodle. My friend said I should get a Bedlington Terrier. Which one do you think would be best for me? I think a dog that looks like a pony or a sheep would go nice with my cow, Rover. Because I want a dog I obviously don't have a social life and need a girlfriend? What's an ipodoodle? How about a Lambrador?
    Answer:get an ipodoodle
