Hi all! Im thinking about getting a Bichon Frise puppy and it seems to look a lot like the Maltese but I know there not the same. I just was wondering what the specific differences (temperment wise) were between the two. Thanks for your help!!
Answer:maltese used to be owned only by royalty..they were used as hand warmers....sitting on the lap and your hands would go under them...if you were caught with one and not of royalty..you were put to death....anyway...maltese are very high strung....if you have kids...dont get one of those...bichons make much better pets for children...both have high grooming...but maltese are worse...hair is much thinner and mats faster, and i think they bark more..i have one...shes 10 yrs...worse thing about white dogs is the staining around the eyes...its work to keep it looking clean...and the products to help is like bleach...and i refuse to put that near her eyes....if you want a one person dog...go maltese...if you want something more friendly and bigger...get a bichon...thats just my thought...
My female Bichon Frise is 9 years old and she humps my 3 year old female Bichon/Lhasa Apso mix. Also, my 1 year old female maltese also humps the Bichon/Lhasa Apso mix. Why do they choose that one to hump instead of hump eachother? Is this sexual or dominance? Also, the maltese will bite me then try to hump my elbow. Is she in heat or something?
Answer:Dominance is the cause in this case. You absolutely must establish yours with all three dogs before it escalates. A good way to handle the 9-year old would be to either make her stop the behavior and then ignore her by turning your back or place her in a "time-out" in another room when she does it. A good way to establish it with all three would be to let them see you "eat" from their bowls. Make them wait as you put the food to your mouth and make sounds indicating that your are enjoying it. Above all be consistent! Dogs are pack animals. And in a pack the dominant one eats first.

I'm thinkin of getting puppy & I like the bichon frise breed but I have 2 house rabbits. And I was wondering if anyone has this breed with other pets? My rabbits can hold their own, but they are nice. I know I would to get a puppy so that it would grow up used to them.
Answer:I have a bichon and a cat. They get along fine. The dog came 1 year after the cat so they play around (a little rough sometimes.) My cat is pretty aggressive and because of this, the dog grew up playing with her. If the rabbits aren't rough with the puppy it will grow up being gentle with them! My parents had a bichon with a calmer cat...and they dont fight at all. Hope that helps!
