A few months ago I recieved a young female pup. She is a Pointer X Bluetick Coonhound. I know plenty about Pointers, but Im lacking info on Bluetick Coonhounds. Answer:I bet she's a REAL beauty. Blueticks are wonderful, devoted family dogs, great with kids. Judging by her mix I'd walk her with a harness and always keep a good hold on her as she'll probably try to tree squirrels :D

Does anyone out there have a bluetick? I have a 5 month old female, Vollie. I am in love with her! I am concerned about her poo. She is on Blue Buffalo food (she was on Iam's when I got her). We switched her a couple of months ago cause her poo was a bit loose. Guess what? It still is. She checks out fine at the vet. I am wondering if anyone has had this issue and what you did about it. Oh, we tried adding carbs with rice. She picked the dog food out and left all of the rice. Is there a different food I should try? Thanks for any info!
Answer:When we switched my dogs to Evo dog food made by Innova they both had hard poo. I'm pretty sure it was the food, because a few years later I now receive a discount on Science Diet and switched to that, and the poo is looser again. Did you ask your vet about the issue? They usually have some really good ideas.
I have a Bluetick Coonhound who is overweight, we take him for a 40 minute walk in the woods almost everyday but he never loses weight. I don't want to give him diet pills either. He eats a brand of food called "Benefull" which our vet recomended, but thats doesn't work either. I need a method on which is healthy and perhaps worked for any of your dogs? Thankyou.
Answer:When one of my weimaraners went blind he put on 20 pounds. I was able to get him to loose those 20 pounds by cutting back on the amount of dog food I fed him. He got no people food at all, he got only two treats per day and he got only two cups of food. He dropped the weight pretty fast. Read on the bag of food what the requirements of food are fo the weight of your dog and use the low end of the scale for it or even cut back alittle from that. Feed him twice per day. Keep up with the walks those are great for them. If you measure the food each time you feed you will not give to much. Weigh the dog each week and track his progress. If he is not loosing cut the food down some. My weim lost the weight about three years ago and has kept it off. I measure his food each day nad he gets several runs per day and he gets very few treats.
