Latest Bluetick Coonhound Frequently Asked Questions:
I am willing to travel as far south as Northern Florida, as far east as the Atlantic coast (say virginia, NC, SC), As far north as Ohio, and as far west as Arkansas. What would the waiting list be like for a well bred Redbone Coonhound or Bluetick Coonhound puppy? (My 2 favorite coonhounds) Reputable breeders usually do not advertise online. I like coonhounds we just haven't decided between the two and we aren't looking to get one for a few years
Answer:You GOTTA be kidding!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are thousands! There isn't a waiting list....they readily/easily available. Contact your local coonhunters clubs;there are HUNDREDS! Check out FULL CRY magazine, any of the other coon-dawg magazines. If you can't even pick a breed, you're sure not very choosy....how'd you know a good one if you tripped over it? Ah....just kiddies chat,eh? YES,real coonhound breeders are everywhere! There are thousands but you want strangers-online to do your homework....for a dog you won't even buy.
Answer:Take him coon hunting with a older trained dog and find out. He's got the breeds in him...it just depends if he's got the focus for it...

I know there is a Beagle. And I know there is a separate breed called a Bluetick Coonhound. However, I have had some people tell me that there is now a breed, recognized by the AKC I assume, called Bluetick Beagle. My cousin's dog may be just that type of dog. How could we find out?
Answer:Here are several pics of them..It is not a separate breed, but only a coloration> http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/beaglephotos6.htm the AKC breed standard, calls only for "Any True Hound Color".> http://www.akc.org/breeds/beagle/index.cfm
Answer:I have a bluetick too and I'm so excited because I've never met anyone who has one! Don't you just love your Ticky?! Anyway! My bluetick is really itchy too so I asked my vet about it and the vet said I could try washing her with dandruff shampoo and Dawn dish soap. So I do and it works really well. It's cut down on most of the itching! I just wash her with the dandruff shampoo for a first coat and then the dish soap for the second. Hope this helps! It worked for me!
