we just adopted a BORDER TERRIER, and i think he's acting up. I want to pin him down, to make him see that we are in charge, but i just don't know how? i understand he might bite me. are there any internet sites where i can get information on pinning down a border terrier puppy? please help, and thanx
Answer:Although Border Terriers are physically tough, they usually respond very badly to harsh corrections. They seemed to understand that you're angry with them and will act in a way that some people think means they're "sorry", but truthfully they have no idea why you're mad and are likely to just do the behavior again. Lots of harsh corrections generally doesn't train them, but makes them fear you. I don't know exactly what your puppy is doing that make you want to pin him. You can get a lot of advice about particular situations from people who currently have the breed. The first person I would talk to is your breeder if you got him from a good breeder. If that option is not available, then I would use: - In the UK http://www.borderterrierworld.co.uk/ - Mainly US, but with a worldwide membership http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/TheBorderT-L/ - In Australia/New Zealand http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/BorderT-OzStyle/ Good luck

We just aquired a broder terrier, for the first of having a dog, Shes in the age of between 1-3 but most likely to be young. The second day we had her she came into season with alot of pain the night before. Shes been walking and having fun in the garden with me and my sister but sleeping alot when she's in the house. I was just wondering how long does the female border terrier stay in season for?
Answer:You need to consider her in season for 21 days. There are different stages to a heat cycle I recommend reading about it here http://www.petpeoplesplace.com/resources/articles/dogs/faq02.htm Keep her on a leash or in your yard until her heat cycle has ended and she can be spayed.
I'm looking into getting a border terrier. I know that purebreeds are rather expensive, but what is to cheap and what is to unreasonable of a price?
Answer:It depends on the breeding practices-good bloodlines, registration etc. Do your research and visit a few breeders before you plunk down a huge amount of money for any breed. Check to see if there are any breed specfic clubs in your area and contact them for any suggestions and referrals.
I live in Richmond, London and we are considering getting a Border Terrier. Is there anyone else who has one in the city and can tell me if it is alright to keep them here. There are quite a large amount of green spaces where we live so its not a complete concreted area.
