Answer:A friend of mine has 3
Over the last few months my dog has decided that all rules are out the window. She is tearing up the trash in the house. She is pooping in the flower bed and on the sidewalk. She bites when putting on her leash to go for a walk. She rolls in the other dogs poop and runs in the house and jumps on the furniture. She has never been allowed to be on the sofa or beds but now she is out of control. If I tell her no she growls and shows all her teeth. She bit my husband recently for trying to put her leash on her and then proceeded to poop and pee on the floor. HELP! Any suggestions? There are no new children or home issues. No one has abused her. She has a brother that we've had for 8 years. He is also a boykin but with very different attitude. He s very mellow and calm. She has always been aggressive with the vet. When taking her there she has to be muzzled.
Answer:Any time a dogs behavior changes it is time for a vet check to make sure all is well with their health.
My dog has a 4 inch sized lump on his left side between both of his legs about 6-inchs to the left of his spine. It feels like it's a bag full of water and is very soft and mushy but fairly well-defined. It doesn't cause him any pain when I'm touching it/etc. so I don't think it's an infection. Can anyone list some likely possibilities of what this might be? Yes, I know I should go to a vet but my family itself doesn't even have health insurance (they want $7k/year with a comical $40k annual deductible) so I have to try and diagnose most family and dog issues myself to evaluate risks/solutions/etc. And yes, I know this is horrible but at this stage it's food, roof, or vet bills. It's my wife's dog and she's now unemployed and I'm trying to do my best to care for her dog.

Does anyone have experience with a Boykin Spaniel? What do you like about them? What do you dislike? I'm considering one as a 2nd dog, it will also compete in obedience and agility. I've read about them, but would like to know from personal experience. Thanks. I don't care if a dog chases small animals or cats. My previous dog, a hound mix, had a very high prey drive and my current hound, a dachshund also has a strong prey drive.
Answer:I've met one Boykin when I lived in the south. I think the only way they physically resemble Field Spaniels is that they're brown and about the same height. That's it. Personally I don't like the look of the Boykin. Their yellow eyes freak me out and the shape of their skull is unattractive to me. But other than that, they seem to be great dogs for active owners. The one I knew was very intelligent. She was a wonderful hunting dog and was attached to the hip of her owner. She was more of an outside dog than an inside one, but she got on fine indoors as long as there were people around for her to fawn over. I have a Field Spaniel and practically any hunting dog if trained properly can get along well with small animals. My dog will only chase after birds (NEVER kill) and only when granted permission by me.
ok i have a boykin spainel and was wondering if they were an AKC breed. I looked on the website for the AKC and they were not there. I have heard that they are registered now.
Answer:Yes, they are a recently added breed: "From the February 2007 Board Meeting - The Boykin Spaniel will be eligible to compete in the Miscellaneous Class, effective January 1, 2008" Good Luck, they are neat little dogs!
