Puppy Dog Breed Bullmastiff

Latest Bullmastiff Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Where can I find a female Bullmastiff for breeding?
My friend has a pure breed, champion blood line Male Bullmastiff and he wants to stud him. We have been looking forever here in Arkansas with no luck. Please help.
Answer:Try putting an ad in the paper and not just the regular papers (which can be expensive)...Try show and tell times, thrifty nickel, and other free publications. You can usually run ads for a long time there and have good results for less money. Also look up "free dog classifieds" on the internet and post some ads! You will at least get a few results that way! Also consider having some "samples" taken and frozen by the vet. That way you can ship them anywhere in the US without having to travel. Costs a little more but well worth it!

  • How much would it cost for a Bullmastiff?
I'm looking for a Bullmastiff and I want a HUGE one! Of course if you buy them as a puppy it's hard to determine how big in size they will get, but is there anyway to tell? The help is greatly appreciated.
Answer:I'm not a BM breeder, but expect to pay close to 2000 for a good one. It may seem like alot, but it's definitely worth it. If you get a cheap one from a pet store/puppy mill/backyard breeder you will be looking at health and behavior problems down the road.

  • Can you successfully breed a bullmastiff female with a doberman male, and if so, what's the result?
I am considering breeding my bullmastiff female to a doberman male, but am curious as to the results, and the success.
Answer:Probably will be black/tan floppy eared mutts....a combination of each breed. I personally would NOT do this. There are enough half breeds in the world needing homes. Maybe you should think about leaving the breeding to the professional breeders. Breeders breed for the betterment of the breed. I know I am being harsh.... but think about how harsh your vet would be on ya if you asked them what they thought too! Dobermans are perfect the way they are... so if the bull mastiffs too! Don't do it man!

  • how can i stop my bullmastiff to stop barking during the night?
I got my bullmastiff from a rescue home, he is a really good dog however he barks during the night. he sleeps in the same room as me but continues to bark at anything and sometimes nothing at all. My partner wants us to send him back as he cant stand the lack of sleep, i dont want this at all. please help me?
Answer:get him a stuffed toy to sleep with and comfortable bed. As a last resort...use a soft fabric muzzle that you can get at the pet store and he can still drink water with it. He may try to get it off at first but be persistent. I had to do this for my dog and he only wore it for a few nights and then didn't need it anymore because he started to understand that I needed him to stop barking and waking everyone. GL

  • Is it ok to feed my Bullmastiff regular food instead of dog food?
So I have an 11 week old Bullmastiff and I want to cook food for him instead of give him dog food. What do you think would be best for him? I want him to be healthy and strong.
Answer:Its fine if you do your research on how to properly prepare and balance meals for your dog. Dogs require a meat-based diet. They get little to no nutrition from grains, fruits and veggies. There are some groups on yahoo regarding raw feeding (prey model and BARF) as well as home-cooked meals. I highly suggest you join a few of them and do some research there.
