  • What are the positives and negatives about the cairn terrier?
Hi so my family is thinking about getting another dog and I want a cairn terrier I just need to know the positives and negatives and positives about them ~Morgan
Answer:Ages of children - Cairn puppies are very small and young children can be unintentionally rough. Fenced garden - Cairns are notorious for escaping. Time the puppy may be left alone - lonely, bored pups can be destructive, noisy and difficult to house - train. Other factors to consider are grooming - not demanding but the coat needs professional attention once or twice a year. Training - Cairns tend to be a little self - willed but this is part of their charm.

  • How should I introduce a cairn terrier puppy to my 11 year old cairn terrier?
I'm bringing home a new female cairn terrier puppy and am not sure how to best introduce her into the house. My 11-year old cairn (male ) has the run of the house as he is very well-behaved. I'm not sure how he is going to feel about this new addition to the house (it took him a few years to warm up to my son whose now 8). I"m also not sure where to keep the new puppy while she's being house-trained, where to keep her food & water dishes, toys, etc. Any suggestions?
Answer:hmm had the same problem with a puppy and a cat. I would start off small by blocking off maybe a section of the kitchen and keep the puppy in there. That way the older dog wont feel like all of its territory has been invaded. And then once they get used to each other make the space bigger and bigger (I used to have a foldable metal mini gate that i used) until finally u can let the puppy loose in the house..hope this helps!

  • Why has my parents cairn terrier started snapping?
My parents have an 8 month old cairn terrier and up till yesterday she was adorable. She is now attacking the cat and snapping (bearing her teeth and jumping) at my parents. What can they do to stop this? Why is she doing this? They haven't mistreated her in any way. She is spoilt and has lots of toys to play with.
Answer:hi there your terrier is spoilt she is lovely i am sure but as i have 2 terriers they are hard work and wilful a mind of their own she sounds like she has ideas about ruling the roost as they say your parents have to be strict on her let her away with nothing or it will get worse my sister has a Carin and she is in trouble he bares his teeth and growls if he decides that he doesn't want to be touched the dog is lovely but totally rules her home your parents aren't being mean but they need to nip it in the bud before it get serious they need to chastise her if her behaviour is unruly but not hurt her from a terrier lover good luck stick with the rules they lay down and she will soon learn who's boss at the minute she thinks she is

  • My 9 yr old Jack Russell and yr old Cairn terrier have just started fighting after being together a year. Why?
They have always got along fine until the Cairn terrier turned a year old, now my Jack starts all the fights which are really viscous, they have drawn blood on each other on more than one occasion. Now my Cairn is really timid and we have to always keep them apart. I forgot to say that both of these doggies are little girls!
Answer:Both being of the same sex is a problem. It could be because one just reached sexual maturity, and is now arguing over dominance with the other. Its not that unusual in Jrts for them to start fighting, no matter how long they've been together. They can know each other for years and years and then get in a fight over something. There was once a case where this man left his 2 terriers at home. These terries knew each other for 8 years. But that didn't stop them from hurting one another. Theres a lot of other cases like this as well. Jrts can often be dog aggressive. I'm not sure about Cairn Terriers... Anyways, I suggest getting the Cairn spayed. It could help a lot, and she's more likely to accept dominance from the Jack. Anyways, hope that helps!
