How long does it take to train a cavalier king charles spaniel not to jump up on a sofa? Also How DO you train your cavalier king charles spaniel not to jump on our sofa?
Answer:Well it takes a while for my dog so it might take a while for yours to, well it depends if their hyper or not. To train your dog not to jump on the sofa you have to loudy say "No" and point a finger at them, do that many times and it will listen to u and understand what "no" means. Or if they keep doing it then you send it to their crate for atleast 15 minutes everytime they do that. Then they will understand that if they keep jumping on the couch then they will be sent to their crate. Good luck (:
Would the cavalier king charles spaniel be good with my elderly nan and myself. I am 13 years old. Are they good with strangers. Do they need loads of exercise. Would my nan be able to cope with it and it's needs. Are they aggressive. If you have ever owned one it would be helpful if you could explain what they are like. Any good breeders you know in the west midlands.
Answer:They are social and affectionate dogs, and on the whole easy to keep, but they have been so dangerously inbred that they are subject to many genetic defects. Mitral valve disease is very common (leading to heart failure - Cavaliers tend to die quite young, very often of this), and so is a ghastly ailment called syringomyelia, which is caused by their having been bred to have a "squashed-looking" muzzle; the resulting foreshortened skull is too small for the brain. Syringomyelia causes agonising pain and progressive paralysis. If you want to buy a Cavalier, take GREAT CARE to ensure that it comes from a healthy strain. Don't assume that if its parents won prizes at shows that means they were healthy! Dog breeders and dog show judges are so obsessed with dogs matching the breed standard that animals with horrific genetic defects are quite capable of winning "best of breed" provide they look "right".

Answer:I have 5 Cavaliers and an 18 month old niece. My Cavaliers are always very gentle with her. They actually follow her everywhere especially when she's munching on a cookie. My Niece has even sometimes pulled their hair and the only way they react is they run away. No aggression what so ever. But i would be concerned that the child may over handle the Cavalier so constant supervision is required. Also whenever i take my dogs in public there is always kids around wanting to pet them and they get very excited when they see kids. They lick them to death. Also one of my Cavaliers used to live with 2 young rambunctious boys ages 6 and 8. He really goes bonkers when he's see's young kids. He loves all the attention. I tried posting pictures of my dogs with my Niece but the link won't work. EDIT: Today i took all 5 of my Cavaliers to a huge dog event that benefited the humane society. There were about 200 people, both adults and small children. Everyone wanted to pet them of course and everyone did. None of my dogs ever reacted and they loved all the attention. A Lot of kids reached in the wagon and all of my dogs adored all the attention they received.
We were given a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and when we got him there were stiches on his belly about 2 inchs above his male parts. Does this mean he was spaied or did he have something else done. The person that we got him from didn't know much about the dog since she just got him 2 weeks ago and the owner didn't tell her much and she didn't ask.
Answer:If this dog is male the cut would not be in front of his parts but in the scrotal sac between his legs. That is called a neuter. I have no clue what was done to your dog but it sounds like maybe a hernia operation for an umbilical hernia.
