I want to adopt a chinese crested dog from a shelter in UT but I want to know some pros and cons of having this breed of dog? This is the dog I want to adopt! http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=7852455 My BFF thinks that this dog is ugly b/c of its breed and wants me to get a yorkie but I really do like this dog! Plz do not answer if ur going to be way rude to me! Thx 4 reading! Also if u can do u now if its considered a powder puff or hairless b/c it looks like it doesn't have much hair but has some! Either way i don't care but it'd be nice to know! Thx again for the answers! I guess that they are selling for $50! Thats way good to me! It doesn't say it has any health problems but i don't know why they gave it away or if it is a stray but i am going to look @ her tomorrow tho!
Answer:They vary in amount of body hair.. this one appears to be a "hairy" hairless. A powderpuff has a full coat of hair like a "normal" dog. Most hairless you see in the show ring are a "hairy" that is shaved down to get the hairless appearance. My boy is considered a true hairless, he has no body hair.. he also doenst have the flashy furnishings you see in the ring. Shaving is not necessary in the pet, its a personal preference. I know a lady who loves the "hairy" hairless, and she leaves them all unshaved. They tend to have allergies.. many are allergic to lanonlin and wool. Some have weird food allergies... I know one that is allergic to lamb! Common health problems: allergies, luxating patella, dry eye, PRA, closed ear canals in some lines, legges perthes, The hairless also tend to have some loss of dentation. It comes with the hairless gene. Its accepted in the show ring.. puffs should have normal dentation. They are the most loving and affectionate little dogs tho! If you want a constant lap warmer.. a crested is it! They are very clingy and want to be with you constantly! Very comical, but can also be very manipulative in getting their own ways! They are intelligent too. They are heat seeking missiles, and love to cuddling under the covers next to you! They are very in tune to their owners emotions and feelings, I know of many who are therepy dogs. They can be difficult to housebreak. Mine are both about 3 years old, and are not 100% reliable.. we have a few accidents each week. Well I reallly want a dog that is suitible for everyone in the house including my little sister. But my mom said that chinese crested dogs are ugly!
Answer:I have Poodles and I have a Chinese Crested on order :-) I have terrible, terrible allergies but I am perfectly fine with poodles. They are not hypoallergenic like a lot of people claim but they can be LOW allergy, which is great. Chinese Cresteds are the same, low allergy but not completely allergy free. There are 2 varieties, the hairless and the powderpuff. Cresteds are beautiful dogs, the ones you see on the 'ugliest dog' competition are horribly bred borderline mutts, a GOOD crested looks like a little pony on the move. Their skin feels like very soft warm leather. I would call a few breeders and see if you can arrange a visit with your family and spend a day with the dogs, just to see if they affect anyones allergies. What is fine for one allergy sufferer, may not be fine for another. The only way you can know for sure is to spend time with the dog.
