Go to your local book store or library and you'll find several books about the breed. Talk to your vet and they'll be able to offer you information about the breed.

A friend of mine mentioned that he has heard of a shar pei biting his owner's nose. I am only interested hearing from previous or current owners of Shar Peis. Thanks! What I am looking for is experience with Shar Peis, not comments about how sweet pits are, or how mastiffs are labeled as gentle giants. Answer:Just like you, Honeylove, I fostered a Chinese Shar Pei for a short amount of time and loved him! He was a great dog, and never appeared aggressive. They do have a reputation for being short tempered, and this comes from the fact that they are a breed with a very dominant personality. When owners of this breed are timid, rather than confident in their role as "pack leader," that is where problems with aggression arise, because the dog tries to take on the alpha role, which is often demonstrated through aggression.
