  • Is there a way to get my chow/lab mix dog certified that she is not a threatening animal to anyone?
I know for insurance purposes, most renters in California won't allow people with chow-chows or chow mixes to move in...but is there any way to work around that? Perhaps if I got my own insurance liability policy for her? Or are there any organizations that can do some sort of behavior testing to certify she is 100% tame? My dog was a stray, and looks like a possible chow/lab mix. She has never had any trouble with strangers, she never bites or growls. She is actually the most peacful, happy dog I've ever owned. I need a place to live with her but no one will take us! Please help with your advice. Thanks.
Answer:I run into the same problem a lot of times because my girl is an Anatolian Shepherd/Great Pyrenees mix plus she is almost 28" and 100lbs. I've had people look at her and back up, women grab their purses like she will mug them and parents grab their kids and walk the other way, it's insane. So far, I've had my girl CGC tested and certified as a therapy dog with Therapy Dog, Inc. (I want to try Delta, but am having a hard time getting them to call me back). Anyways, something else you might want to look into that I am waiting for a test in my area on, is the American Temperment Test Society (link posted below). My recommendation is to get as many "titles" on your girl as you can. That is what I am doing mainly to make it easier for her to be accepted and because after awhile it's fun.

  • How much can German Shepherd Chow mix puppies me sold for?
Ok this question is really for my sisters Husband but he was looking for a German Shepherd Chow Chow mix and he wants to know how much he should pay for one??? Plez help he doesn't want to spend more then what they really should go for??
Answer:If a puppy is a pure breed with papers, then it is salable. In this case, it is not salable. Most people that have puppy mixes are happy to give puppies (free) to anybody who would provide for the dog love and give it a good home. As puppies get older, they become less cute, and very harder to give away. Owners know this; thus, some urgency to place puppies in good home fast. This works in your favor. I would expect to get it for free. Many shelters have adoption fees that cover vaccinations. This is a different story. If you get the dog for free, then you will be paying for all the shots. Here is some good advice – When you get a puppy, take it immediately to a vet for a checkup. If the vet does not think it a healthy dog, then take it back. Puppies are not cheap - In the first year expect to spend a lot of money to cover vet bills, food, bed, toys and other dog stuff.

  • Are Chow Chows a Good Breed for 1st time dog owners?
I wanna know if Chows are a good breed for a first time dog owner.. Can you lists the pros and cons of a chow chow too... ThNx
Answer:No, they are not for an inexperienced owner. I grew up with one, and have known quite a few of them, our family became great friends with the breeder. They are beautiful. Loyal. Independent, intelligent. Obedient, if trained properly, consistently, and continuously. Great guard dogs. My parents had owned/trained dogs all of their lives, so they spent a LOT of time and energy, and did an excellent job training/socializing our Chow Chow and he NEVER ever showed aggression towards myself or my bro, we were 5 and 7 years old when our family got the dog as a puppy. They are stubborn to train, are very independent and headstrong. They require a LOT of socialization, and training needs to be reinforced every day of their lives. They need a lot of grooming and maintenance. They aren't exactly social butterflies, ours used to enjoy chilling out by himself way more than playing with us! If you don't know what you're doing, and aren't able to properly train/socialize this dog, they can (and have been known to) turn into a nightmare. Personally, I can't wait to get another one. They are a very unique breed, my favourite breed actually. But I would NEVER recommend a Chow Chow to an inexperienced owner.

  • How long are chow puppies for?
I wanted to know how long is a chow chow dog a puppy...then at what age does it turn to an adult
Answer:I consider a 1 year old dog to be about equivalent to a teen-aged human. 2 years is usually maturity.

  • How long can you store homemade chow chow relish?
Okay yes I am a relish making virgin. I just ran out of my favorite relish which is chow chow && I always put that on my homemade beans. I was thinking instead of buying another already made chow chow I could make my own. I found some recipes && im probably going to make some but I want to kno how long can it store in my refrigerator? Thanks.
Answer:Rene is right and if the jars are sterilized and properly handled you could keep it up to a year in a cool place, my grandmother use to make chili sauce and zucchini relishes back in the 1960-70's and we never got salmonella. As long as it is hot and the lids seal with a pop, it will keep, and if you do a good job it will last, give some to your friend and relatives to try, you could end up making it more. I made a Jamaican hot sauce style one and took it to work one time, the one Jamaican lady I worked with took it home and her hubby also from the islands said it was not possible for a non Jamaica to make something that tasty, so anything is possible.
