Hi! I have a 5 month old Clumber Spaniel cross (her father was a pure bred Clumber) and I have found that they are quite rare in Australia and was hoping that someone might be able to give me a name of an organisation here in Oz or a website so I can find out if there are many others here in Australia.. I have heard that a member of the Royal Family contributed to the decline of the clumber spaniel mid 1900s as they had previously been a royal favourite but can't find the story anywhere. Can anyone help?
Answer:Historically, it was particularly the "invention" of the modern English Springer Spaniel around 1903 that spelled the end of Clumber ascendancy in the aristocratic hunting circles of the English nobility where they had reigned as the supreme flushing and retrieving spaniel since before 1788. The decline of the Clumber in England can be traced to the rising popularity of the Springer and the subsequent breakup of the great estates after World War One. Another contributing factor was the loss of royal patronage following the death of H. M. George V, which saw the elimination of the royal Clumber population at Sandringham Kennels. Perhaps these people have more info?
Answer:Clumber Spaniels are pretty sparse in the US if thats where your from. You can join a spaniel club, or a hunting group. They are more prevelent in the UK and Europe. I assume you mean you want to hunt your Clumber? You can go to local shows and breed specific events. Even calling area Clumber breeders, ones that have been established for some time. They can tell you diffrent clubs and organizations to get into. Doing a google search can help, but best to go to Open Field Trial events and check out the spaniels groups.

I have a 12 year old female golden retriever and am planning on getting a second dog, a clumber spaniel, i have heard things that two females are not good together so does that mean that i should get a male?? Which do i get a boy or girl??
Answer:Hi I Managed a rescue centre and this is a very fequent question. The answer is Id depends. By this I mean a female may love one dog and hate another. The only real way to see if they get on is to take your dog to wherever you are going to get the second dog to socialise it first. The best way to do this is for you to walk your dog on one side of you and have the other dog walked by someone else initially on your other side. Try to walk them on nutral ground so there is no treatorial issues and then when they have both let off a bit of steam make the new dog or yours sit and allow the other to sniff. Do not allow them to meet or stare at each other face on this will only give them reason to hate each other. Once you have esbalished they are okay you may want to repeat this about 3 times to make sure. Any reputable rescue will allow this while putting the dog on hold for you its new prospective owner. Please dont be put off by others saying Oh 2 females cant be done or it has to be 2 females. It is totally dependant on what your dog likes what the nature of the other dog is like and if the two just jell. Its a bit like humans If you dont like someone.
