A Cocker Spaniel mating with a Female Cocker Spaniel will produce a Cocker Spaniel that looks like a Cocker Spaniel? right or wrong? lol. Also where can I find a picture of a puppy who mum is a Show type Cocker spaniel and it's Dad a Working Cocker Spaniel? thanks I mean an English Cocker Spaniel. Show type.
Answer:Disagree with the previous answer. Of course there are "working" Cockers, as opposed to "show" Cockers. A "working" Cocker Spaniel is about twice the size of a "show" Cocker - the variety is still the "Cocker Spaniel". A "Working" Cocker Spaniel is a large dog, with heavy bones, rather than the lighter, smaller "pet" breed. It is quite difficult to find these, nowadays, because they have been bred out to produce the lighter pet breed. Those who breed Cockers for show, are looking for "prettiness" rather than for utility. I've seen working Cockers who are nearly 3' tall; they were bred by farmers, for their usefulness, as were my Springers. None would win any prizes at Crufts, because they are working dogs, bred for usefulness and stamina, rather than beauty. My first Springer had a Cruft's winner for a grandfather; she had health problems for many years and died when she was 9 years old, having cost thousands of pounds in vet. bills. Now, I have home-bred Springers (mother and daughter) aged 12 and 9; they are both perfectly healthy and well-trained, and beautiful. We are complimented wherever we go on their beauty and their good behaviour. Warning: be careful if you have a new Cocker; the pet/show types have been so inbred for so long, that many can suddenly exhibit aggressive behaviour. Never, ever, leave this dog alone with a child!!
My family is thinking about adopting a puppy. And we saw a cocker spaniel mix. It looks alot like a normal cocker spaniel puppy. And we don't want a huge dog like a St. Bernard, so we need to know how big (aprox.) a cocker spaniel get. Answers (kind) appreciated!
Answer:The Cocker Spaniel is small dog, 15 inches at the withers (top of the shoulder blades), with a medium-length, double coat; long, pendulous ears; and a merrily wagging stumpy tail. Females are slightly smaller than males. And they can weigh around 15-30 pounds
What is the difference between an american cocker spaniel and a cocker spaniel ? Are they the same? Is one bigger? Is it just the name?
Answer:The American cocker is smaller and unsuited to hunting. A friend of mine has two English cockers from Poland. Although cocker shaped, they have heavy bone. They resemble Field Spaniels more closely than either English or American cockers I see in the US.
