I'm trying to get a show border collie for conformation and junior showmanship. I heard that certain colors make it less or more noticable in the show ring.
Answer:black and white They seem to disregard merles as often as possible.
I am looking at getting a border collie for my townhouse next year. I've done a lot of research on it and will be able to give it plenty of exercise. My townhouse rules, though, prohibit dogs over 25 lbs. I will graduate from college and be on my own in a year where I can get less lenient rules, but will a border collie be under 25 lbs at 1 year old.

We're planning on getting a border collie puppy, and heard a couple of people who have border collies that its better to have two as a puppy than one, purely because they can exercise themselves better than you can. Opinions?
Answer:I agree with everyone with the ONE at a time - we got our BC, Dixie, when she was 10 weeks old. I had no idea how hard it was to housebreak - or how long it could take! I can't imagine having to do it with 2! A good place I found info on BC's - dogworld.com - I just found it this past weekend and it told me lots I did not know that I wish I had!! LAND - she needs LOTS LOTS LOTS of room to run. We don't have a very big yard so unfortunately for the moment,Dixie does a lot of running on the sidewalk and street - not always great on the paw pads.. Oh - she was so cute! We met the litter and knew right away she was ours. We were very lucky - I think we have the most laid back bc on the planet and she STILL keeps us going 9 hours a day! I start throwing the ball for her when my feet hit the floor at 6:00 a.m. and we don't stop running, chasing the ball and kids until well after dark- and she would still keep going if we would! BC's are meant to "go"many many many miles a day- no, they wouldn't exercise themselves, they would exercise you Meet your breeder. If they are good and know the breed, they would - SHOULD, I think, advise you the best way to go, because the dogs well being should come first- shouldn't it?
We've had our collie cross for 3 years and feel he's a good size at 17 kg, he's quite wee for a collie. But the vet said he was "light" the other day and now we're concerned we are under feeing him. Rightly or wrongly we feed him canned food and mixer. What's the correct amount to feed him?
Answer:Feed him the same amount as you've been feeding to maintain his weight. Add a little bit more (maybe a quarter of a can) to increase his weight. Alternately, you could give him more treats to increase his weight. How "light" is he? He's underweight if you can easily feel his ribs and backbone. If there's a little meat there, I wouldn't worry.
I'm getting a border collie and I want a rough coated dog. How can I tell if the puppy is going to be rough or smooth coated? I have a friend who has a border collie that is smooth coated, so how can they only be rough coated?
Answer:MARCI KNOWS BEST, does NOT know best. Border Collies come in Rough and Smooth coats. The reputable breeder that you get your pup from can tell which coat the pup will have. It's pretty obvious at 8 weeks of age, so do some homework before purchasing this breed. Please do NOT purchase an AKC Border Collie, as many AKC breeders are ruining this breed by breeding for looks rather than brains. You do know, of course, how much money a Border Collie will run you? When the dog turns a year old, you will need to turn the dog over to a professional sheepdog trainer. In house training is around $500.00 a month, and your pup will need to be left with this trainer for 3-4 months. After that, you'll need to take lessons at least twice a week at $50.00 an hour. You may want to rethink getting this breed.
