Answer:what a great combination! do it!

  • What are curly coated retrievers like as dogs?
What are curly coated retrievers like as dogs? Your opinion on that breed. What kind of people would they suit? Band & good I want to know =) (English Curly i'm talking about)
Answer:They are good dogs, but they are not as easygoing as their Golden and Labrador cousins. They typically arent great with kids- but are fine with an older household. Again- not as outgoing and easy to train as Goldens as Labs- but certainly intelligent and willing to learn. The coat is good for allergy sufferers, as it does shed minimally (my friends have always had curleys- even though one of them is allergic to most dogs) and is very easy to maintain. They generally dont get along fantastically well with other dogs, but socialisation from a young age can certainly help to avoid problems in the future. Suit active people, wanting a hunting, jogging, or walking partner. Although you generally dont see them in Obedience and dog sports there is no reason why a curly wouldnt excel if you put in the time and dedication (and socialisation) As I said- I have friends who have always had curleys- and they are very nice dogs- but as far as temprement goes- they are not my choice. If you think that this might be a choice for you you should certainly do some research into the breed, and talk to more curly owners and breeders about whether this is the right breed for you. Good luck!

  • I crossed a Labrador Retriever with a Curly Coated Retriever... what did I get?

    Answer:A curly lab coat

  • I am looking for a discussion group for Murray River Curly Coated Retrievers?

Answer:This is a very rare breed often confused with the Curly Coated Retriever. However, there is limited information on the Murray River Curly. I found a Message Board for the Curly Coat Retriever. Even though they are not the same dog it may be a good resource to start. Maybe it would make sense to research the various breeds, which are assumed responsible for creating the Murray River. I found this segment at the second source below: Some sources suggest the Flat Coated Retriever and a particular type of Spaniel were bred to produce a dog with the required characteristics. Apparently the Flat Coated Retriever chosen was one with a wavy coat rather than a purely flat coat. Other sources suggest it was due to breeding between Curly Coated Retrievers and Irish Water Spaniels. Whatever the origin, the Murray River Curly Coated Retriever is now a breed unto itself in Australia. You might want to think about starting your own message board on the topic. I did find a website dedicated to this breed, but they do not offer a message board.
