Latest Dandie Dinmont Terrier Frequently Asked Questions:
Answer:That varies quite a bit, depending if you want a show quality one or just a pet quality one. The best place to find out more info about this subject is in the source box below.
I bought one at a pet store last year and they told me it was part cocker spaniel and part Pekinese. She's really timid, and will hide when new people come around. She is sweet as can be, but kind of on the dim witted side. What is yours like? Are there other ways to train her? I walked into a pet shop one day and fell in love with the cutest little face. She looked just like the dragon from The NeverEnding Story. Obveously she didn't look anything like a cocker spaniel mix. After doing some research I found her to be a Dandie. She did not have papers, as they didn't even know what she was when they sold her to me. She was given a clean bill of health from our vet and seems to be healthy and happy. She's just a little on the "dim" side. I'm wondering if anyone else sees these traits in their Dandie.
Answer:Wow! I saw one at the dog show once. Rare breed, but check it out at akc.org. I hope you got a registration with the dog when you bought it. Next time purchase a dog from a small well loved home breeder. A lot of times pet store puppies are puppy mill puppies, and a health desaster! Get your new pup vet checked and keep up on shots and checks regularly!! Best of wishes!

Answer:I don't know about that specific breed but any dog in the right scenario is capable of killing. I have a lab that has twice gotten in my chicken house and slaughtered everything he could catch.
Hi, I have the chance to get a Dandie Dinmont Terrier for $500. He's from a reputable breeder. Normally she charges $2500 for show quality and the one I would get is pet quality. He's got a short(er) tail. He's pepper and about 3 months old. My thought is I should get him since they seem to be good family dogs. I've got small children. Plus from what I understand, there are long wait lists to get one. The reason she's willing to sell to me is b/c my dog (not a Dandie) just died so a friend of a friend put me in touch with her. She says it's about a 2 year wait list for a puppy. No I'm not going to resell him, he'll be our family dog. Good deal? Good family dog? Thanks in advance!!
Answer:Go for it - dandies are getting rarer. As for the price it's probably cos he isn't up to the "proper" breed standard or it could be the same case as i had with my youngest where she was booked and the people asked the breeder to hang on to her for a while then turned round and said they couldn't take her - by which time she was 4 months old and harder to sell on. Roni, i know rescue dogs are a good cause but i'd argue getting a dandie is a better cause because they are now on the endanger breed list. There'll always be mutts but their might not be dandies for much longer.
