  • How much should i expect to pay for a Dogue De Bordeaux?
I live in the U.K and i'm looking to buy a dogue de bordeaux male pup. I have seen many different prices. I want a good example of the breed, so how much roughly should i pay?
Answer:Ring round the breeders on this list to find out an average cost. http://www.doguedebordeauxclub.co.uk/breeders.htm Make sure you are aware of all the health problems in the breed and make sure you only buy a puppy which is KC Registered and whose parents have had all the necessary health checks. For a recent introduction to this country the DDB has already attracted some undesirable breeders so make sure you find a reputable one!

  • How much will it cost to get a Dogue de Bordeaux spayed??
Hi, we have recently been getting an 11 month old dogue de bordeaux and we want to get her spayed. Does anyone have any idea how much it will cost. We are based in North East England if that makes any difference. Thanks
Answer:Hi there, the north east of england is one of the cheapest areas for vet treatment. I imagine it will cost around £140-£180 to have her spayed. But best to call local vets to get quotations and make sure that the quotation includes check-up and theatre cost.... some practices give a break-down of cost... get any quotation in writing. It is normally worked out on the weight of the dog.... Well done for being a responsible owner!!

Answer:There are many things special about the Dogue De Bordeax. Although I don't own one, I have met quite a few and I can say they make great family pets. They are very rough and tough dogs and will do anything to please you. Don't be fooled by the movie Turner & Hooch, they really don't drool that much, and with proper excercise, they are the best companions you could ever wish for. Most of them will protect you no matter what.

  • How much has the breed Dogue-de-bordeaux (french mastiff) has changed in Phenotype Or From past times ?
What do you think about the HEALTH , BODY TYPE and WORKING ABILITIES if we compare present day Dogue De Bordeaux (french mastiff ) WITH olden days or past time DDB (french mastiffs ) ??
Answer:Define "olden" days. Are you talking about the time when they were guarding the french border against the black plague or after the second world war when there were only 6 dogues left in French breeding programs? Prior to WWII there were two types of DDBs- the larger one that we know now that were guard dogs for farms and businesses like the butcher. The smaller, the doguin, was more of a "town" dogue. There is now, as far as current knowledge goes, one type with smaller genetic "throw backs". The health is obviously not as good as it was prior to WWII when there was a much larger gene pool to work from and the dogues were mostly working dogues as very few people could afford to feed a dogue for the pleasure of it's company. Personally, I think that Americans equate bigger with better when it comes to ddbs. I like mine ot be muscular and athletic, but conformation judges tend to prefer the more sausagey-looking dogues, which in my opinion, is a shame. I know the working instincts are alive and well- when a car pulls into the yard the girls run to the fence and the male stands on the porch and waits. And they really get going when the neighbor's scotch highlands get loose. :-)
