Latest English Setter Frequently Asked Questions:
Just adopted and English Setter from friends. Any tips on this breed? behaviors? grooming?
Answer:They are great dogs. They take some grooming time lots of brushing and foot cleaning after they have been out in the field and hunted. They have a nice tempermant and are beautiful dogs. I looked at them but the long hair I knew would be lots more grooming time than my Weimaraners. We hunt very regulary and I was not sure I wanted to spend that much time brushing and cleaning.
I met a year old, female English Setter at an adoption fair, but I didn't bring her home because my wife thought the Brittany we had wasn't a good indoor dog. The setter had the sweetest temperment and I can't get her out of my mind.
Answer:Any of the sporting breeds are fairly docile and even termpered so they make good pets and are good around kids. As far as I'm concerned, any dog is an indoor dog. I'm really not one for leaving them outside overnight. They're part of my family and I wouldn't leave my kids outside just because they were growing to big. The setters do need to be exercised regularly since they're a larger animal and they need to be combed out to prevent knotting. They're loving dogs - go for it!
I just adopted an english setter that was supposed to be a fully trained bird dog.But it appears that he needs quite a bit of updating/retraining to get him up to the point of being fully trained.Does anyone know of a club/group that I might contac /join to help me learn how to finish training my new hunting companion?

Hi everybody, I got this 4,5 months old english setter from my friend, but he doesn't know how to train a dog, neither do I , that's why I started to search for dog training tips on the net. If possible tell me proven methods, and if you want, I put them on my blog -which I started to help to people with the same problem-. Don't worry, if you don't want to share your tip on my blog with other people just put a 'y-o' (yahoo-only) at the beginning of your answer. :) Thank you for your help. http://the-dog-behavior-problem.blogspot.com/
Answer:You can train your dog yourself. It's not hard, if you take the time to study the methods of Dog Training. See if you can find the book..Good Dog, Bad Dog, by Mathew Margolis and Eric Seigel..It is an older book, but it has everything you need to teach your dog basic obedience. I recommend you learn basic dog training yourself, because you will understand your dog better and be able to reinforce the training as necessary.
i am planning on getting an English Springer Spaniel. I looked up some pictures of them and realized that many of them don't have spots. Do English Setter puppies get their spots as they get older just like dalmations..or no?
Answer:Yes some of the more prominent darker areas will be apparent all ready but other patches will come later as they grow.
