Latest English Setter Frequently Asked Questions:
and an English Pointer dog?? My friend has the english setter, and she points!
Answer:The English Setter is a long haired, medium in height, and elegant in appearance and movement. The coat from back of head in line with ears slightly wavy, not curly, long and silky as is coat generally, breeches and forelegs nearly down to feet well feathered. They can be Blue Belton, Orange Belton, Lemon Belton, Liver Belton or tricolour. They are used to point or "set" hence the name Setter, the clue is in the name. The working setter is slightly smaller than the show setter. The English Pointer is an entirely different dog, but a pointer none the less. They have a short coat that requires very little grooming. They are Liver, Lemon or Black. neither breed is predominantly used for retrieving but they can potentially be taught to find dead and wounded game. However any decent shoot will have labs for retrieving. They look completely different and have different temperaments.
looking for a bird hunting dog and a pet, have settled on an english setter and am looking for a breeder...
Answer:Go to a field trial or hunting test to meet breeders. You could also try a dog show. You might get a better hunter from someone who breeds for performance and not only show dogs.

Is the English Setter dog a health breed or not? If not a health breed please tell me what the health issue are. Thanks
Answer:The English Setter is a very gentle, placid, friendly dog. They are excellent with children and loves affection.Enthusiastic and lively outdoors, but relatively inactive indoors. They also get along well and enjoy playing with other dogs. They need to have a authoritative and firm owner otherwise they will become dominant. Rules, structure and training should start early to prevent development of bad habits. With every breed there tends to be common problems. Be careful not to overfeed this breed, for they tend to gain weight easily. The are prone to hip dysplasia and false pregnancies. If you are thinking of taking on any puppy, I recommend reading thoroughly about the breed and raising a puppy in general. I found 'The perfect puppy' by Gwen Bailey to be a helpful resource. Good Luck :)
