My German Shorthaired pointer has a lemon size swelling under the inside of her leg. She's thirteen. The vet say's it might be cancer, has this happened to any one else?
Answer:These tumours are INCREDIBLY common in older dogs, especially lartger ones, and yes it happened to mine. They are caused from a mututation in their genes that causes an over replication of a cell in a particular area...Considering the size of the tumour and its area really consider if your dog is in pain...more than likely it is inhibiting full function of his leg. Does he have any other smaller lumps on his body anywhere else? If so more than likely your dog has cancer. 13 is a long life for a german shorthaired pointer, so don't waste money on blood tests and more than likely surgery will do more harm than good. I know because I did the surgery on my ten year old golden retriever who had the same type of tumour on his face. It caused him to pass a week later, the anesthetics are too hard on older dogs. I know how hard it is making decisions such as these, but really don't put your dog through the pain of surgery.
I want to know how to tell the difference between an English Pointer puppy and a German shorthaired pointer puppy aged 13 weeks, anyone help?

We are thinking of getting a puppy. The mother is a british cocker spaniel and that father is a german shorthaired pointer. I was told that them mixed togehter would make a very hyper puppy and dog.
Answer:Both breeds can be high energy as they are hunting dogs. However, both breeds are very trainable and nice in so many ways too.

Answer:Whenever I am looking for a breeder I always start at the breed's club. In this case the German Shorthaired Pointer Club of America. You want to make sure the breeder is reputable. Most breeders that are listed on the club's site can be trusted - which is why I always look there.
