  • Is a German Shorthaired Pointer a good dog?
I'm looking to buy a dog?
Answer:Depends... Up for high energy and alot of exercise? Is it going to be used for hunting AND as a pet (inside as part of the family)? Or as a pet only?? Do you have a GOOD enclosure for them and not a chain? They MUST be obedience trained and not man handled. They are happiest when they are busy and close to their people. I have a German Wirehair Pointer (kinda cousins) and she's always on the go or crashed curled up next to me. She's a wonderful dog but can go "hyper" if I don't exercise her enough. I wouldn't trade her for the world AND believe it or not - she was a pound dog!

  • When can my german shorthaired pointer have a liter ?
She will be seven months old this month and we are looking to breed her. DOES ANYONE KNOW I meant litter
Answer:When you have won her show titles and received great scores on her health tests, she'll be good to go. Of course- you being the "reputable breeder" and all...should know when to expect her first heat. Either way, you will want to find her an excellent male. And people whom have excellent males love to see a tested and excellent female. Better get into it then! If you aren't going to bother, then there is no point in wasting your time and money on a litter of unhealthy puppies.

  • My german shorthaired pointer is vomiting up what he eats.?
I know that for his size he should be eating almost 4 cups a day.He can really only keep down 1/2 a cup.I am now trying to wet it before he eats it.Any other suggestions? I took my dog to the vet and she told me we were doing the right things. She did tell me to start feeding him in a more raised position. As in:His food should be placed chest high.Thanksfor all the responses.
Answer:Please take your dog to the vet. You can get all kinds of answers on this list but the only way of being confident in the prognosis is through your vet. Don`t gamble with your dogs health as their can be so many reasons why this is occurring. Even a dog with an intestinal blockage will still eat till it finally either ruptures the intestine and becomes sick and weak. Good Luck to you and your 4 legged friend

  • How easy is it to housebreak a lab/german shorthaired pointer mix?

Answer:This is the exact breed mix my dog is. He is the best dog I've ever had. He is the most obedient, eager to please, loving and gentle dog. He was VERY easy to housebreak. He is very sensitive and you didn't have to yell at all with him. If you were stern and told him NO, he'd understand and really try hard to please. My guy is four right now and we can't imagine not having him as part of the family. He's so incredibly gentle that any child can climb on him or jump on him and he just lays there. If he doesn't like it, he'll carefully get up and move away. No biting, no barking, no growling. He's an amazing dog. I know you'll be amazed at how quickly your pup picks up on commands and the potty training. Good luck and many happy years ahead!!!
