i wantted to know... how much does great dane eats in a month. i just want to see that i can afford it or not ( puppyhood and adulthood )
Answer:Jenn answered it well. You need to feed your dog quality food, not junk. That's particularly true for the Great Dane for a variety of health related reasons, mostly joint-related. With chew toys, food, heartworm preventative and treats, I spend at least $100/month on mine. That doesn't include vaccinations or teeth cleanings ($300+ each time). Additionally, large dogs often have problems on a grand scale which are expensive to fix. Mine had to have her ACL repaired which cost $2,000, not including x-rays. And the biggest kicker is, Great Dane puppies can be HUGE but are still puppies. So if you're not experienced in how to train one, or how to house one, it could do some costly damage to your belongings..... mistake your sofa for a chew toy, claw holes through your walls trying to get out, eat your carpet, gnaw your doorknobs off, etc. All of these issues is why there are so many Great Danes in rescues. People often get them as puppies, are overwhelmed with the cost and destruction and then dump them. If you want to see an example of what happens to them, go here: http://www.thetimestribune.com/local/local_story_100101307.html I've worked with a Great Dane rescue. Many foster home are Dane lovers who also are behavioralists. After spending time learning how to socialize, many Danes are well-adjusted to be adopted. I'd look at your local rescue if I were you before deciding on a puppy. I love the breed but wouldn't have a puppy. I've seen too much devastation. And it's the middle-aged ones who are mellow, who need homes more than the puppies.

Answer:I own 3 Blue Great Danes. Not to scare you, but I paid on average 1500-2000 for each. A great Dane is not like a Lab, so they are pricey but WORTH EVERY PENNY. Prices also differ depending on color and how big the parents are. Hope you find one, and get ready to raise a BABY, they seriously think they weigh 10lbs, and just wanna lay on ur lap. Oh, and get ready for the attention walking on the streets, its funny. You've made a good choice.
is there such thing as a smaller type of great dane
Answer:A definite no. Then it wouldn't be a Great Dane anymore would it.
I have never had a Great Dane, but I plan on getting on as soon as I get my work/school schedule worked out for good. I have read many books and online websites dedicated to Great Danes to find out more about the breed. So now I know the basics about owning a Great Dane so I can be prepared. But I was just wondering if anyone knew of any good Great Dane breeders in the Fort Wayne, Indiana area? I am looking for someone with a lot of experience and it's always good to find someone less expensive than most. Thanks!
Answer:To find a reputable breeder, you should go through the official parent club of the breed. (gdca.org) You can then do a search by state. Indiana only has one recognized Great Dane breeder, who is located in Milan, IN. There are also a few in Ohio. This is the only place I would suggest going for AKC-worthy quality Great Dane puppies... they also screen their puppies for health, which is quite a bit more comprehensive than just a regular vet visit. Going through the parent club ensures top-quality puppies bred to standard. Anywhere else, there's a lot more of a chance you'll run across a "backyard breeder" who won't have their puppies health screened or vaccinated, and you could spend a lot more money in the long run.
