  • is greyhound and german shepherd good dog for your protection from the wild animals?
i live in the farm. there are a lot of coyotes, bears, wolves, and even mountain lions. i heard that ridgeback is a good dog. they 're not scared of wild animals. but i personally like greyhound and german shepherd. please give me some information.
Answer:First, no domesticated dog would be a match for a pack of wolves or a mountain lion that isn't interested in running. Second, there are a lot of great breeds, especially if your focus is on protection. Let me make a couple of points: --distinguish between alert and protection. There are some great breeds out there who'll notice if something strange is on the property or get a whiff of the strange scent in the air but aren't so hot at protection. And then you've got good dogs who's nature it is to be protective of "their family" and will fight if there's a threat. But it's difficult to have a breed who truly excels at both. --it's less about the breed and more about the temperament and training. I've seen GSDs, Cane Corso's, Pitt Bulls, Rotties, Ridgebacks and other breeds that are supposedly viscious that were instead loving, gentle and even a bit intimidated by smaller dogs. --don't assume that just because you got a particular breed and even a dog with the temperament that should make a good protection animal that you've got it covered. The next step is training. This is critical. Start with Schutzhund (especially if you go with a GSD or Malinois). A good protection dog starts with being safe around the humans and having superb control. Otherwise, you've got a dog that might be tough but is just as likely to run off chasing something and leave you alone when you need protection. I'm serious about this point: dogs as protection are ove - . It doesn't come naturally to them, especially when you our needs and situations. Last of all, Iove greyhounds, think they're great dogs. But I have never associated that breed as one that would be a great protection or attack dog. Superb for chasing down small game. But not quick to bark, a bit docile and the first part of a good protection dog is one that scares the threat away (by movement, posture, barking and stare) so the threat decides it's better to look for dinner elsewhere.

  • What's the difference between Italian Greyhound and a Whippet?
Harley is four months now and he is 4.4kg. The pet shop says he is an Italian Greyhound but his coat is not glossy. I can't tell if he is an Iggy or a Whippet.
Answer:Size for one thing, the Italian greyhound is smaller and lighter boned than a whippet. They are what I would describe as 'dainty' It is unfortunate that you bought from a pet shop. This is a BAD place to buy any pet from as they get their dogs from puppy mills where b1tches are bred from and pups raised in horrific conditions. Often these pups are sick. poorly bred and in very bad condition. This could well be why your pup is in poor coat. Take it to the vet for advice. Get it wormed, build it up with good quality food (I only feed raw meat) and its coat will soon be good.

  • What is so dangerous about Greyhound Buses?
I'm planning a trip and I can't drive so people ask me how I'm getting there and I tell them I'm planning on taking a Greyhound bus. And everyone keeps telling me their really dangerous but I can't imagine why because their really popular. So what makes Greyhounds so dangerous?
Answer:No clue. I think they are as dangerous as going to take the trash out in your backyard...who knows whose out there. I personally took the Greyhound from Ohio to Vegas a few years ago, and met some really cool people. The only thing that made me nervous is a few of the bus stations during a layover, but that is more cause I'm a girl, and I was traveling alone. It's not very comfortable if you are on for a long period of time, but no different from driving in a car, being cramped a bit. Just take along a good book or an ipod, and you'll be fine.

  • When did Amtrak become more expensive than Greyhound and why?
A round-trip from Dallas to LA on Greyhound is about $250, but with Amtrak it's around $500. Amtrak used to be a lot cheaper than Greyhound - What happened? When did this change? I'm planning on going to LA from Dallas in a few weeks, and I see people suggest Amtrak over Greyhound all the time, so this is pretty disappointing.
Answer:about a month ago, I just went o on amtrak from portland oregon to winona minnesota, and it wa $286 roundtrip. Today it's like $550 to make the very same trip. Being those are both major hubs i would check out flying, it might cost a litle more than 500 but i would guess that you could get there MUCH sooner, i bet that's like 35 hours or so on amtrak. Greyhound, There is not f*cking way i am spending like 1100-1400 miles on some bus.

  • What is a cheaper way to travel than greyhound?
Im planning on leaving from knoxville TN to Phoenix AR here in a few months and I know about the whole plan 21 days in advance with greyhound but still it will be $200 dollars or at least in the area.. So does any one know of cheaper alternative buses or other modes of transit that might be cheaper?
Answer:Not really. The only other way would be to hitch hike and then you're not guaranteed to get there! Taking a bus isn't going to kill you. I would plan on spending some money along the way for food and sodas.
