My parents have an irish water spaniel, and she litrally COVERS the floor in her hair. You hoover the floor, and within 5 mins the floor is covered again. We just looked it up online, and its said everywhere that irish water spaniels are on of the types of dog that dont shed hair. So why dos my parents dog shed so much??
Answer:It depends on how your parents groom their dog. After their dogs takes a bath they should brush it threw with a brush to get all the extra hair off hiding under the new hair.
My Irish Water Spaniel Matea just turned 3 years old. I am thinking of breeding her. she is AKC registered and health tested and she is fed BARF diet. I currently have five friends who LOVE Matea. But they cannot find any IWS breeders in the area. One of my friend's has allergies and would love to have a puppy since IWS are hypoallergenic. Can you guys help me find a purebred champion IWS stud to breed her with. The breed is suprisingly rare in the US and I wanted to know if you had seen anything lately. I have visited learn to breed.com and I have read numerous articles on whelping. Just once and I will spay. all my rescue dogs are spayed. But she's the only one who is registered.
Answer:The only thing I can suggest is to contact AKC. You can't ask questions about breeding on here, most people are ignorant, including me. I'm sorry. I work with a rescue shelter, but I still respect people that do the years and years of research and testing to breed top quality dogs. No one on here is going to know of a champion stud, and even if they did, they wouldn't tell you. Sometimes people can be very rude on here regarding breeding.
We currently have a 3 year old AKC registered Irish Water Spaniel. She is AKC registered,has place 1st in 4 conformation shows and has tests for any defects in her hips,legs,etc etc. We would love to breed her once before having her spayed to keep her bloodline going, plus my mom would love a puppy of mine. Can you give me some good sites find a stud dog who is AKC registered show quality stud to breed her with?
Answer:I would contact the Irish Water Spaniel Club of America representative for your area. Or perhaps your breeder can help you? He or she will already have an idea of what bloodlines have been successful when combined with that of yours.
Is anyone aware of where I could find information regarding getting or their health? I know the AKC has some information but I would like more in-depth knowledge as well as where a good place to buy one would be? I have been looking to buy one and have not had good luck. Any ideas? Thanks! Also, do they have any common health problems?
Answer:If would be wise to join the AKC-affilated "parent club" of this breed, and to go an IWS specialty show ( a show just for IWS) and meet plenty of breeders and see plenty of good dogs.
