  • I have an Italian Greyhound and we have a trip planned from TN to CA, which is a 4 hour flight?
Does anyone have any experience giving their Italian Greyhound Acepromazine? I tested the prescribed dosage on him, but it took him over 24 hours to become normal again. I want him to be comfortable during the 4 hour flight, but I am afraid of giving him too much. I've heard IGs are very sensitive to Ace. Any suggestions please!
Answer:Does he have to go on cargo? or can he go with you? if he can go with u, he does not need ace, my pomeranian flies with me without pills or craps, and hes totally fine, but hes used to it since he was a puppy...so i dont know if he is an adult and it is his first time...you want to ask to a veterianrian? Even that, some vets dont even know what is an italian greyhound so i suggest you try contacting a REPUTABLE italian greyhound breeder, they use to fly with their dogs for go to shows and so on.. Or try to email/phone any italian greyhound club: http://www.akc.org/breeds/italian_greyhound/

  • How to best house train my italian greyhound?
I have an Italian Greyhound, 10 months old. She is the sweetest dog but is having trouble 100% mastering outdoor potty training. She definately knows she is supposed to go outside as she does most of the time, but we will still catch a spot inside every few days. When we do catch her and say "No!" she will immediately stop and run outside. It almost seems to be when she gets "upset" she goes inside. Any ideas?
Answer:IG's are one of the hardest to potty train breeds out there. It's a HUGE reason that the dogs are dumped at shelters and in rescue. Basically, you have to realize that she will never be 100% potty trained. You may be able to get to 75%, 90%, or even 99%, but most IG's still have accidents at some point (especially in yucky weather). Punishment does not really work with IG's as they are too sensitive. A 'no' during the act may be helpful, but some IG's then think they are getting in trouble for getting caught and just hide it better. Your only option is to be more vigilant about taking her out. If that means every 60 minutes, then so be it. And get her fixed, if she's nto already. IG's are one of those breeds where the females mark just like males - especially when in heat.

  • How much does your Italian Greyhound weigh?
I never really paid attention to how big my IG is but I've noticed that she may be bigger than the average Italian Greyhound. She's about 18-19 pounds. Noticed on websites that average IG's weigh 8-10, and 12-15 for larger size IG's.
Answer:That's why it's a PET!! Over-sized,UNDER-sized,topline,running gear, etc. ALL must conform to the BREED STANDARD to be show/breeding quality! and...are you OVER-FEEDING??? Most pet-people do,you know!

  • what is the maximum age for you to breed an italian greyhound?
my italian greyhound is 4years old is it too late to let her have babies?
Answer:A real breeder would know this. Breeding is alot more then putting a male and female together. Read this: http://www.learntobread.com to see what is really involved.

  • What are the best games to play with an Italian Greyhound?
I recently rescued a 6 year old Italian Greyhound. He seems accustomed to our daily routine and comfortable with us. The only problem is he doesn't play much. He won't play with toys, fetch, or run around the yard. We can get him to run after us if we "hide" in the house, but that is about it. THEN, he stays up all night roaming around keeping us awake. What can I do to keep him active during the day so he will sleep at night?
Answer:Italian Greyhounds are fabulous racers. If you want to give your dog a good time, try bringing your dog to a local lure coursing event and see if the club has practice runs that you can test your dog on and see how they do. At home, try fuzzy, squeeky things on a light line that you can bounce around and act like little prey. IG have wonderful prey drive and love to chase small, fuzzy things that dart like prey. This is very natural. Check out Yahoo Groups to see if they have IG groups. Maybe you can hook up with local owners in your area or region. Maybe there are breed clubs you can attend events.
