  • Keeshond???
Okay so my mother has a friend at work and the lady is having financial trouble and is moving into a mobile home park because she just got a divorce and her daughter is going off to college. Her dog is a 12 year old Keeshond and has silver and black points. The mobile home excepts dogs but she is worried that the dog will act up too much and bark and they will kick her out. She is looking into giving it away but she doesn't really know what to do. So what should she do? She lives in South Windsor, CT if that helps. Please don't be judgemental on her part. Easy 10 points! If she brings it to the police department will they take her right there on the spot?
Answer:What's the problem? I've had Kees' for over 20yrs. & none of them were very loud. They are trained to be barge guard dogs, but rarely bark for no reason. These dogs are very calm & people oriented. They love to be around their "family" & are unhappy when left alone. This friend should give it a try. Since she's going to be alone, she & the dog will have each other for company. That's all a keeshond needs, somebody to love & they're happy as a clam. Even if someone complains, the police can't take the dog right away, but the landlord could cause trouble. Just try to keep the dog busy & don't leave it alone for long periods.

  • How much should I expect to pay for a Keeshond puppy from a reputable breeder?
I have been wanting to get a puppy for a while now and have settled on the keeshond breed. How much should I expect to pay for a keeshond puppy from a reputable breeder? What have others paid? Thanks for the help. I'm in the US.
Answer:Really depends on the breeder and the type of keeshond you have bought from the breeder. Generally a show breeder has dogs/pups that fall into these 3 types: Pet quality- meant to be just a pet, just as healthy and beautiful as the others but not showable due to small or larger physical flaws, Show Potential, this type of puppy has been evaluated at a young age and looks like he may be showable (sometimes they do not grow up to be showable therefore the term show ''potential'' and then there is the Showable usually an older dog around 6 months and in the breeders opinion and knowledge they are a good enough example of the breed to compete in conformation. These things will usually affect the price of the dog. What I've seen from reasonable breeders in my area are as follows: REMEMBER this may NOT be the case of breeders in your area. Lots of things can affect price such as demand due to popularity of the breeder, how rare the breed is in your area etc or just breeder's own choice. Pet quality- $600-1500 Show-Potential- $1,000- 1,600 Showable-$ 1,200-2,500 If you find yourself going whoa thats a lot!! REMEMBER show breeders are very good at what they do and you are getting the best of the best when you purchase from them and not just in looks. These dogs sire and dam have been painstakingly tested for all kinds of illnesses and problems of temperments and their breeders often spend thousands on one litter in the process of breeding, pregnancy and whelping and raising and you are getting a great deal!

  • What is the dog commercial with the Keeshond?
I recently saw a commercial that I really want to see again. There's an adorable Keeshond puppy and other dogs... I remember the Keeshond was incredibly fluffy and it was hopping around. I can't remember the dog food brand it was endorsing, but I know they have a series of commercials that are always simple with white backgrounds and just a couple of dogs. I think they might have once had a dog, just eating out of a dog bowl. Their commercials kind of remind me of Telus commercials.
Answer:i think you might be talking about pedigree dog food

  • Where would I adopt a Keeshond in Hawaii?
Hi! I live in Hawaii, and own a dog-friendly townhouse. I would love to get a dog--I've narrowed my choice down to a Papillon or a Keeshond, but I am leaning more towards the Keeshond. Only thing is, I don't know where to get one...it wouldn't have to be a puppy; an adult dog is fine. I don't want to support puppy mills, so I probably wouldn't purchase one from a petstore. I can't seem to find any breeders in this state, and there are no keeshond rescue groups for Hawaii that I'm aware of. Our humane society has mostly pitbulls and dobie mixes. Please help. Also, how much can I expect to pay for a pet-quality keeshond? If you think of anything else about the breed that might interest me, please share. Thanks! OK...thanks for your answers. Here are some additional details: 1) I live in HAWAII; there aren't many shelters here; 2) I've been to the Humane Society on the island and I haven't really found a dog that's right for my family and I; 3) I need a dog that can be gentle with my children and my in-laws; 4) We really have narrowed the dogs we want to either be a Papillon or Keeshond 5) SO...if you have information on how I can find out more about these dogs' availability in Hawaii, THEN please feel free to comment... THANK YOU!

  • How much do you feed your Keeshond?
My housemate's 8month old spayed female keeshond is really fat, despite him reducing her food. How much should the dog be eating? She is not an energetic dog and spends most of her time lying around - maybe because she's so fat!! Any advice from Keeshond owners?
Answer:Each dog is an individual. I have German Shepherds. One is fed 2 cups per day and another 8 cups per day. There can be that much variation. You start with whatever is recommended as the average based on body weight on the bag, then increase or decrease as needed. An eight month old pup can be switched from puppy food to adult food and if that hasn't already been done, it should be. When you reduce her food you might make up part of the difference with canned green beans which will help her to feel more full without adding a bunch of fat or calories. Your vet might also be able to prescribe a low calorie diet. Feeding smaller meals more frequently can help. She also needs exercise. No diet is going to work without exercise. So take her for more walks, teach her to play ball, and/or enroll her in obedience class or even agility class.
