Hello, if you have been reading some of my previous posts, you will know that my family and I are trying to find a breed of dog that best suits our life style. Staffordshire Bull Terrier is my first choice, but I am also curious about the labrador retriever. I just have a couple of questions about the labrador retriever. Please answer all of them. 1) Will a labrador retriever bark to alert me if someone strange is on my property? 2) Not that the labrador retriever will be used as a guard dog, but if someone threatened me and my family, and the lab was there, would he protect us? 3) Do labrador retrievers have big intimidating barks? 4) Do you think that if we saw someone strange outside, and from inside the house we told a lab to speak (bark), would the intruder get scared and leave? 5) Just out of curiosity, but are labrador retrievers muscular and strong dogs? 6) And finally is it true that if you use food while training, a labrador retriever can learn just about anything?
Answer:The answer to every answer is yes. Labs are excellent dogs and VERY intelligent. I don't believe there is anything you an't rain them to to. They very intimidating barks and are protective over the masters. Some can be overweight, but that is due to the owner's feeding habits. Mine is in great shape and is wonderful.
i am planning to get a puppy, and i was considering two breeds, either a golden retriever or a labrador retriever? i want an active and playful dog who will guard and defend my house from strangers. i also want a dog who doesn't leave too much hair lying around. maybe only medium hair, and that's all.
Answer:well, guard dogs aren't a good idea. get a security system. and normally I would say goldens are way better than any breed ever. I do have prejudice against labs because I have a friend that has one that is so annoying. he was raised by them from a puppy, not abused, but he is really skiddish, and hes really rough. Im not saying all are like that, but the one I know is. but since you specifically said no shedding, I would think the obvious answer would be a lab. but if you want the attitude of a golden without any shedding AT ALL (not one hair) I suggest a golden doodle. they are a golden poodle cross. but the benefits in the golden situation greatly outweigh the hair. and this is my personal opinion, but I think the golden is the most gorgeous dog on earth.

Have a 3 year old Labrador Retriever who constantly jumps on me. It is difficult to play with him as he is huge and is often close to knocking me over. How do I train him not to jump? For those of you who are wondering: Yes, I do take him for regular walks.
