I am fixing to adopt a Labrador Retriever Mastiff mix and I was wanting to know what the nature of this dog is. What are the Pro's and Con's about this type of dog?
Answer:He's a mix so it's really hard to tell. Can you meet his parents? That's probably the best indication. If not, it's really going to be a toss up. Read about both breeds. HOWEVER - if he's a pup, he will be what YOU make of him. If you treat him well, socialize him, train him and work with him, he can be anything you want - which of course is - just a great dog.
I got a labrador retriever puppy a month ago when it was 3 months old. Since then my puppy (Buddy) goes to the door though he does not bark to let us know that he has to do his business. If we don't let him out in time he runs off and does his business inside my house. This is my 1st pup so I do not know what to do. If you know anything please help me out. Thanks for your time and concern.
Answer:Your puppy is going to the door and standing there. That is wonderful!!! That is what housetraining is all about, getting the little guy to realize that he has to do his business outside and he knows that, he is going to the door. Fantastic!!! As far as he is not barking, i never had a dog that barked, i just always kept an eye on them when they were puppies, they never had the run of the house until they were housetrained. My puppies were confined to one room of the house which was the kitchen and i pretty much was confined to that room also. But the fact that your buddy is standing by the door means he understands. So just keep an eye on him, always know where he is ... and when he gets anywhere near that door open the door as fast as you can and let him run outside and go with him and say do pee pee, do pee pee and when he does, praise him with such excitement in your voice, say oh what a good boy, good boy.Say it several times, let him know that he just did a terrific thing and you are so happy with him. I would then bring mine back in and you could give him a little treat and say what a good boy. Puppies do not have a lot of control so that is why if the door is not opened quickly he will just run and do it in the house so if you always keep an eye on him that should not happen. As he gets older he will have more control and not have to do that. Sounds to me like for your first pup you are doing a superb job of training him
What is the difference between a gold, black, and chocolate labrador retriever besides color? They must have some sort of different characteristics or traits...
Answer:Indiana got hold of a bit of information, and then got a bit mixed up. Here is what she/he is (probably) referring to. They did statistics on the basis of how many dog bites were reported that needed medical intervention, and compaired the different colours in a given breed. Amongst the labradors, the ones with the HIGHEST incidence of bites are the yellow labs, then second highest are the black labs, the chocolote have the lowest incidence. This result is already the "cleaned up" version, that is the different numbers in each colour dog population has been taken into account. What I found most interesting is, that the same "pattern" seems to apply for Cocker Spaniels. The Golden ones have the highest "bite rate", then the black, and the lowest are the two-coloured. So, there clearly IS a difference between the colours. So far this is only bare factual information, the reason why is still being researched. +++
I have an 11 month old yellow Labrador retriever k? She gets groomed weekly, but I live in coastal Alabama, and she sheds an enormous amount. I was looking for a vacuum cleaner that would thoroughly get all the dog hair off of my couches and out of the carpet.
Answer:Dyson and the pet hair one its brilliant have it on low suction as i found out yesterday when it nearly pulled the carpet off the stairs lol
