  • How do I get my Lakeland terrier to stop trying to attack my cat?
I recently adopted a lakeland terrier cross, he's 5 years old and is great, the only problem I am having is that he is obsessed with my cat! He won't stop barking when he sees it and then cries and whines when I don't let him outside to see it. Please help me stop this behaviour!!
Answer:Get a water pistol and when he starts to bark at your cat squirt him in the face and scold him. Eventually he will make the connection and stop barking at your cat.

  • Where can I get a lakeland terrier in New Jersey?
I am looking to get a lakeland terrier and can't find any breeders in New Jersey. Are there any breeders websites that I don't know about? Thanks!
Answer:Check the parent club's website for breeders in your area. You may have to travel to find a breeder. Check out the website United States Lakeland Terrier Club.

  • Would a Jack russel cross lakeland terrier chase my cats?
My family and I have decided to get a dog. We have searched around and have found a jack ruusel cross lakeland terrier. He is 7 months old and we are going to see him tonight. We have 2 cats 11 years and 8 years old. Would he be a problem to our cats and would he chase them?
Answer:There is always the possibility that he would not only chase them but he could kill them. I had a JR for 17 years and I am sorry to say that he once did kill a cat. From a distance a dog cannot tell a cat from a rabbit and if the cat runs the dog's natural instinct is to chase it and then go in for the kill. If you get a puppy and it is brought up with the cats it would just accept them but a 7 month old JR/Lakeland Terrier is imo not the breed for you. He would terrorise your cats and you would probably find they would hide away and be very miserable, especially as they have had the run of your home for all these years. I have a rescue Springer and she had lived with cats from a puppy so she has never had a problem with them. If you are thinking of getting a dog try and steer away from dogs with a high prey drive. Good luck with your search.

  • Where could I find a Lakeland Terrier?
As far as I know, they aren't a widely popular breed like a lab, or poodle mix. I don't want a mix either. Are there any Lakeland Terrier breed specific rescues? Otherwise, where can I find a breeder of them?
Answer:Do a search for the Lakeland Terrier club of America (if you are in America) or search on AKC.org to see who the breed club contact is - they can put you in touch with breeders or rescues. Also you can go to some of the larger shows in your area and see about contacting the Lakeland Terrier people there.

  • lakeland terrier?
my dog is nearly 4yrs and still messes in the house. He seems to do it out of spite as the back door is mostley left open. Would getting him neutered stop this, also he can be very aggressive at times and rips up anything that comes through the letterbox
Answer:The ripping up of the letters is just a behaviour problem and he's possibly been allowed to get away with it so he now thinks it's ok to do it, he obviously thinks he is the boss of the house, getting him neutered will most probably calm him a little but at 4 years old you may not see much difference i would still advise you do it though as he gets older he may become more aggressive still. I think you really must start putting your foot down, with regards the messing even when the door is open neutering is not going to stop this definately not, thats him making a stand against you and you are going to have to let him see that you are not going to put up with it, you have to be firm and lets him see that he has done wrong, take him to the mess point to it and tell him no bad dog then you have to put him outside and leave him outside for atleast half an hour so he can see what he has done is wrong, ignore him no matter how much of a carry on he makes you have to let him see you are in charge and you aren't going to stand for it.. Good luck with him i hope it works out, if you know when your mail is due lock him in the kitchen and make sure he can hear the mail being delivered but you are to go for the mail not him he's ruling you and your letting him get away with it....
