Latest Lhasa Apso Frequently Asked Questions:
My dog is very funny about where she potties and when out in the back yard or being taking for a walk she will take forever to go. On the other hand my other lhasa apso (male) will go the very first breath of fresh air with no problem. The female will hold it or sometimes she will go in her crate. She has the smallest crate that there is... Some please help my husband is ready to give her away.
Answer:She may have some anxiety issues. I'd see a pet behaviorist or maybe discuss the issue with your vet. Trying to retrain her might work too. Make sure that when she goes where you want her to, you praise her to the moon. It also helps that when she is doing her business at the right time and in the right area that you say a phrase like "go poop" or "go potty" or "do your business" to help her link what you want her to be doing when you take her outside to what you are saying. My senior dog that I adopted from a shelter had this problem. Usually the making a mess in the crate was a result of separation anxiety. There are meds for this, but sometimes it can take recrate training, extra physical and mental exercise to tire her out before you leave...
i was planning on getting a Lhasa Apso, and i was wondering what type of food i should feed it (dry or canned or both) and how much i should feed it, and how many times a day i should feed it, and what companies is the best for a lhasa apso. Also i was wondering what supplies i need to get for a lhasa apso puppy. I was also wondering what shots i have to get it, and how much the shots are going to cost. Thanks.
Answer:Canidae or Wellness Dry food. Feed according to what the bag says on the back. No canned food necessary. You should feed a puppy 3 times a day, an adult 2 times a day. You need the basics, food dishes, crate, leash and collar, toys, and signing up for training. Shots are approx $60 each time you go in. The vet knows what your dog should have when it comes to vaccinations.
We have a 4 year old Male Lhasa Apso dog(Sonny) we are trying to mate with a female Lhasa on heat. She is keen and ready but he does not seem to know what to do. She has had a prior litter. He has not mated before, that we know of, but is quite virile and is sniffing and licking..but no attempt to hump.He is obviously inexperienced but what can we do to assist the process.? The female has been brought to our home.
Answer:give it a hand
My husband and I have been doing a lot of research and we are absolutely positive that a Lhasa-Apso would be a wonderful fit for our family. My in-laws have one and we are very taken with him. I really like the coloring of the ones that are brown with black markings. I have been reading a lot and breeders talk mostly about colorings being golden, blond or parti. Is "parti" coloring the one I am looking for?
Answer:Yes, that would be a "parti" coloring.
I got my lhasa apso at 2 months old. Back then, he weighed 6.5 lbs. At 3 months old, he weighed in at 9 lbs. What is the normal weight? I should also mention that he is 75% lhasa and 25% yorkshire terrier. His mommy and daddy both weighed in at 20 lbs.
Answer:11.5 - 12lbs
